By combining the GALEX, SDSS and UKIDSS surveys we have precisely quantified dust attenuation of the stellar continua of galaxies, from the UV to the NIR, as a function of galaxy properties such as star formation rate. As well as providing useful empirically derived dust curves to improve our measurements of the physical properties of galaxies such as stellar mass, the results can constrain the geometrical configuration of dust in galaxies, the grain properties, and possibly even the stellar age distribution in disks.
