Gary Mamon's Research Topics: Galaxies and their Environments
|
Thanks to its long-range effects (decreasing as the inverse square of the
separation), gravity causes the clustering of large-scale structures, and
galaxies thus tend to live in a variety of environments of increasing mass,
called groups at the low-mass end and clusters at the high-mass end.
So most galaxies do not evolve in isolation, but are instead influenced by
their environment.
Gary Mamon has worked on two issues related to galaxy environments:
- Understanding the environment in real space (it is measured in redshift space):
- Quantifying the effects of the environment on the properties of galaxies
