POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS ON COSMOLOGY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The IAP is seeking applications for up to three 2+1 year post-doctoral positions as a major node of the newly funded Simons Collaboration on "Learning the Universe". The successful candidates will work with the PIs and colleagues to develop and implement cosmological applications of Machine Learning, with a dual focus on cosmological parameter inference and the reconstruction of the initial conditions of our universe from current and upcoming cosmological surveys.

As members of the Simons Collaboration (http://www.learning-the-universe.org/) successful candidates will have ample opportunities of exchange with researchers from other participating nodes (Columbia University, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Harvard University, Flatiron Institute, Stockholm University, Université de Montreal, Princeton University, Carnegie Mellon University, MPA Garching). Teams dedicated to different aspects of the challenge are currently being set up, offering a multidisciplinary environment for the successful candidates.

Applicants should have obtained a PhD in physics, astronomy or related subject by the time of the appointment. The appointment is for 2+1 years with salary depending on experience and performance. Appointments could start as early as spring 2022, but later start dates are possible. Generous support will be available for travel and research.

The IAP maintains a lively visitor program and hosts regular workshops and conferences throughout the year. The successful candidate will be immersed in an internationally visible research environment with rich intellectual and computational resources, at IAP, and more broadly in the Paris region.

Members of traditionally under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

Applicants should submit a CV (max. 2 pages), a publication list, a short review of previous works (2 pages) and a statement of research interests (2 pages), and up to three letters of recommendation. Application material should be submitted using present web interface. All application materials must be received by November 1st 2021 to ensure full consideration.
